Utilize the “Grease the Groove” Method
To preface, I will always encourage setting aside dedicated extended time to exercise as it’s the most effective way to maximize progress.
But, if you are in a pinch for time, follow the “Grease the Groove” method to get you by.
This method is when you perform compound exercises in a low effort but frequent way.
The goal of this method is to practice the movement to become more efficient which will eventually lead to overall gradual strength gain and conditioning.
When you do this method, you do not go to failure, but rather aim for at the most 5-8 reps every hour. There’s no set rule though so you can choose any number below 8 .
For example, you have a push workout planned for tomorrow with push ups as your main exercise, but you find out you’re needed at work later than you expected.
Instead of aiming to go to the gym, you’ll instead every hour during your work day, do 5 push-up reps at your desk or wherever you’ll be. This should take about 30 seconds so 4 minutes and 40 reps total over the course of a day.
If you do this 2x a week using the same time frame, that’s 8 minutes and 80 reps a week.
How much better at push ups do you think you’ll get if you do 80 reps?
There is the beauty even in our small actions. Even if you’re not fully maximizing your planned workout, you will still improve your form and strength by performing any amount of reps per hour.
Don’t keep telling yourself that you “don’t have time” to move your body.
Don’t choose to be one of the millions of people who die prematurely due to the lack of movement.
Move your body daily. Prolong your lifespan.
