What Men Are Searching For

Today’s Men Need A Purpose
There has been a recent rise in the amount of mental health issues diagnosed in the United States.
Since the 1980’s, there has been a 500%+ increase (Insane!) in the amount of SSRI’s prescribed with that number seemingly increasing year over year.
But, what’s not talked about enough is the alarming rate of young men checking out completely on their life.
It’s estimated that 51% of young men are feeling hopeless in America, just like I did before years ago.
This problem doesn’t just impact these young men. There’s often an equal or greater anguish that is placed on their parents, specifically mothers.
Many mothers are starting to finally speak out with the hopes of finding answers to why their sons feel the way they do and how they can help.
Even when I’m at work, I’ve witnessed mothers coming into our medical clinic bringing their son who are struggling.
Every case is slightly different but I’ve noticed a commonality among them all:
They are all searching for something.
They are all searching for a meaningful reason to wake up in the mornings.
They are all searching for their life’s purpose but they can’t find it.
On the outside, people might believe they are simply lazy. But, the reality is that laziness can be a symptom of the underlying issue of a lack of direction.
Parents always come wanting to provide the best support for their son but they don’t know what more to do then bring them to a professional.
The truth is that meaning and purpose cannot be provided to a young man by anyone except GOD and HIMSELF.
Maybe one of these young men is YOU or someone you know…
Start your search for meaning and purpose with these actions:
1) SEEK GOD FIRST in every area of your life. There is nothing more important than being 100% locked in with God and making your relationship with Him your first priority.
Read Mark 6:33.
2) PRAY every day asking God for WISDOM and CLARITY. Make it a daily habit to humble yourself and pray out to God asking Him to continue making it clear what He’s calling you to explore and invest in so your purpose will eventually be revealed.
Read James 1:5 and 1 Corinthians 12:4–6.
3) JOIN a LOCAL church, men’s group, or other networking group filled with men who will inspire you, mentor you, and keep you accountable. You never know who you will connect with or learn from who can change the entire trajectory of your life by opening your eyes to a new skill, job, or opportunity that peaks your interest.
Read Proverbs 27:17.
4) LISTEN and WATCH only QUALITY CONTENT. This means only watching content that teaches you a new skill, helps you gain greater knowledge on an industry, brings you closer to God, or inspires you. You should continue to seek out new and diverse perspectives that might open your eyes to new opportunities.
This also means NO watching porn or any music/shows/podcasts that you know is only leading you further away from the man God has called you to become. It’s not easy at first but with accountable men in your life (#3) you can do it.
Read Proverbs 25:28 and 1 Corinthians 6:18.
PSA: Your entire life might not change overnight. Mine certainly didn’t and that is OK.
The goal is to simply continue to take new steps forward.
You will continue to be tested by seeing a fork in the road.
You can either continue on the same path toward your better life as a born-again Christian, you can veer off on the opposite path of ungodliness, or you can turn back around.
While no one enjoys being tested, the best thing is that YOU have the control to decide what to do next.
I am living proof that THERE IS HOPE for the 51% of you young men who feel hopeless.
Despite each challenge, I keep choosing the path of a born-again Christian and my life has continued to get better.
Stay in the fight men.
I’m right beside you and here if you or anyone you know needs a listening ear.
