What To Invest In Before 2024 Ends
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” is a common cliche often attributed to Jim Rohn.
While it’s good to know this quote, it’s even better to take action because of it.
This is why I’m encouraging each of you to invest at least 28 minutes during the next 3 months to do a “Connections Audit”.
A “Connections Audit” is when you create a list including all of the people in your life in one column and in another, the value they bring into your life. Then you’ll evaluate and decide who are the people you should prioritize when it comes to your time.
Why is this important?
Because who you surround yourself with matters.
God reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.””
We, as Christians, must observe the actions of those around us and ask ourselves the tough questions of who is helping us forward versus holding us back?
If you’re feeling stuck at a plateau or heading down the wrong path, observe the actions of your closest family, friends, and coworkers.
Are they constantly negative? Are they overweight with no care for their health? Are they wasting their time doing unholy behavior like partying, causal sex, or lying?
Be honest with yourself about if those around you are assets or liabilities.
When you do your Connections Audit, look for those who are bringing you closer to Jesus, fulfilling your purpose, and bettering your health.
These people will be your greatest assets and deserve more of your time.
Now I’m not insinuating that you must completely abandon any family members, friends, or coworkers overnight (unless you feel God commanding that) but you must understand that if you continue to surround yourself with the wrong people consistently, your progress can be consistently hindered.
Focus on the following 3 actions to handle people you see as liabilities:
1) Pray for them. One step further, pray with them, if they’ll let you.
2) Become your best self to be a positive role model that will inspire them to change.
3) Invite them to places that brings joy, positivity, and inspiration: hikes, gym workouts, church, bible studies, connection groups, John 5 Movement events, etc.
Some may join you while others may resent you.
You can’t control their behavior but you can control how you manage your time and who you spend it with.
Invest in a Connections Audit before 2024 ends. Your progress depends on it.
